For the past several years, I’ve found the free (and regularly updated) tiny utility DesktopOK to be quite useful on Windows (2000 and later) – https://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Other-Desktop-Enhancements/DesktopOK.shtml (there are both x32 and x64 versions).
