@ Woody Please find us (the world) deals on good to excellent Laptops with Windows 7 or 8.1 OS’s! I understand that they can be sold up until July 2017.

Microsoft is only allowing manufacturers to clear out existing inventory of Win7 machines. As for finding the best deals – if I see something I’ll yell real loud. Yesterday was the big day for crapware-free machines, but Microsoft’s first day of the 12 is over.

Why would anyone buy an on-sale PC or laptop now?
OEMs and big bulk stores are dumping old stock. Yes, it can be a deal from a price point of view, but what is its longevity (as a Windows system)?

In the past it was a good investment to grab a bargain (W7/8 era) but we are in a transition period right now – W7/8 are in extended support and W10 going forward is ‘designed’ for new silicon, not these so called bargains.

Users will get the best experience from W10 on new silicon. I think it is best to wait until year-end 2018 as that is when the component manufacturers will be wooing the Windows Enterprise Clients to bulk purchase Windows PCs and laptops. The 2018 year-end sales would be the best time to jump in if you have decided on W10. Year-end 2019 should be even better due to the total end of support for W7. It should be an advertising/barain frenzy.

If you have a W7/8 laptop and you have decided not to go with W10, but you would like to take advantage of some end of year 2016 bargains, I would say check out a Chromebook. Dell, HP, Asis, Acer and Lenovo have several on sale right now that are pretty decent systems. It is not a huge investment and will allow you a few years to evaluate whether or not it is meets your needs or not. Check out Newegg and Tiger.

      Yep, I agree with that.

Some people don’t like Google’s snooping. Others need to run specific Windows-only programs. But for most people, most of the time, Chromebook is an excellent choice.

      Now I am worried.
Can you explain what silicon v. W10 is referring to?
I am in the market for a computer and cannot wait another year.Actually , I need one today!
Hate Windows 10 but have read that newer mobos will not support Win7.
Was looking at getting a higher end puter built As I will be needing a good (1070/1080) gpu.
      Is this a bad idea?

If you need a high-end video card, you’re pretty much stuck with Windows (or Linux). Long-term Win7 support on the Kaby Lake CPUs is not something I would gamble on. So, yeah, given your specs, I’d say you’re stuck with Win10. Sorry!
