Date search problem

I had excel 2003 and now have 2010, when I search for a date 04/05/1982 excel 2010 will not find it that way. Now I have to type 4/5/1982-I have changed the date to custom mm/dd/yyyy and that does not work. I’m old and use to typing 04/05/1982 please help

How are you searching? Are the dates actual dates or text? are they formatted correctly? If the format is mm/dd/yyyy and 4/5/1982 does not display as 04/05/1982 then it is not being entered as a date. Could you attach a file demonstrating the problem?

As a workaround, try changing your find parameters by opening the Find Dialogue box> Options> Change Look in: from formulas to Values. Your search using 04/05/1982 will find the results. Once set, you do not have to reset it.
