I need to know the date of installing SP3 in order to help resolve a problem with download times on just one website.
If I look at the WINDOWS folder in Explorer I find lots of .log files of around the likely date.
Which WINDOWS files’ WRITE dates in the output from
DIR filepath o:d t:w
will reveal the date of installing the latest Service Pack?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 23, 2009 at 10:30 am #1143571I’m sure there are other places to look that’ll be more “precise” than this, but you can look in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Surprised me that all the others have install dates and SP3 has “last used” but it turns out (I think) that last May IS when I installed it. Anyway, it’s a start.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 23, 2009 at 5:36 pm #1143675Many thanks once again, Big Al: Revo looks like a very useful multipurpose tool – sort of thing that looks too good to be true, until an expert comes along and recommends it.
Interestingly, Revo gives the date I suspected because Windows had numerous write mode entries for that date including folders as well as files.
And: Yes Joe — svcpack.log was written on the date Revo gave. KB 936929 had vanished from my folder too.
Sorry to say my hunch that maybe I could blame SP3 for one site’s slow downloads isn’t supported by the date of installation.
Moral – Don’t lunch on hunches.
Thank you both for your help.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 23, 2009 at 7:10 pm #1143699Yeah, I’ve been using Revo Uninstaller for quite some time now and I usually turn to it rather than Control Panel because it “acts like” it’s attempting to dig out and remove unnecessary entries elsewhere on the system when you remove something. It ain’t perfect and sometimes misses a directory because of a data file it doesn’t understand but it’s a good tool to have around.
