    Hi All,

I have a number of Access 97 databases. When I open them on machines which have XP as their operating system the date changes to US date. Eg I pick from in a select query I select for a start date 1/5/02 (which in Australia is the first of May 2002), I am shown data from 5th January 2002. I have checked regional settings and they show Australian date format dd/mm/yyyy etc why then is XP messing up my dates. There are about four or five different databases and innumerable forms affected so I am hoping that a change in Control Panel or something rather than individual date fields is where the answer lies.

Sorry I have also posted this in the Win XP forum – I hope cross posting isn’t doing the wrong thing

      Karen,

As long as you indicate a cross-post like that, it isn’t really a problem. We discourage cross-posting primarily because you can wind up with two threads in two different boards with some of the same people answering the same questions. The idea thing to do is to post a link to the other thread like this so that respondents can see if their input is actually needed.

As for your question, SQL (which is what is behind that select query) *always* uses the US date format. It’s part of the SQL standard.

        Hi Charlotte,

Thanks for your response, perhaps I didn’t frame the question properly.

We have a form which has an unbound combo box on it, from which we can select dates which are used to filter information. The database is in Access 97. The combo box provides a list of dates entered in a field. When I select 1/5/02 (1st May) from the list it is changed to 5/1/02 and the filtered data actually reflects information from 5th January. It works fine on Win ME, Windows 2000 machines and only has this behaviour on Office XP machines.

        I am stumped.

Er, I should have read your very _first_ post, instead of the last one. I see that you have checked the regional settings. One question out still, though — there is short date, general date, etc. What specific date format are you using (general, short) — and do those settings match what is expected.
          thx
          Pat

          ———————– earlier post ————————–
Have you looked at your date settings (international settings) on the individual machines?
It’s a possibility that they are different.
I’ve had this sort of experience with a couple of reports that I’ve created, although we’re supposed to have a single standard for our short date — sometimes, the computer user will go in and change manually.
          thx
          Pat
