    Hi All,
I am having a slight problem installing one of my kids games. The OS, Win Xp home was reinstalled about a month ago, and all the software went in perfectly. The game used to be on the PC before the reinstall and worked fine. Every time I attempt to install the game, it gets about 1/3 rd of the way through then I get the …….Data Error cyclic redundancy check message, and it aborts. I have checked for both spyware and virus’s but its all clean. The drive was reloaded from fresh, because of to badly damaged files. All software (up until Now)appears to load fine except this game, ( mind you , I have not tried any other software either),the CD looks OK, not damaged etc. Any suggestions as to the possible reason for the (Data Error cyclic redundancy check) error messages??

    Cheers

      Kiwi,
CRC is a rather old error checking method and it depends on how old that game is that you are trying to install. What it is basically saying is that you have a corrupt file or files in the program and it is stopping the installation because of it.
If that is the only copy of the game you may be out of luck. Try a few more apps in your system to make sure they are running OK. sorry

Thanks for that help Bob, the game was purchased at Xmas and was working ok up until the reinstall. All the other programs have installed fine, so maybe its time to purchase a new game crazy The game drove me nuts any way and the computer sure takes a hammering ( keyboard) when the kids play it, not being able to play it may be a blessing.

      Thanks,

      Kiwi

One thing you might try, if you have room on the hard drive. Using Windows Explorer, try to COPY the contents of the entire CD to a temp folder on your hard drive to see if the copy command also comes up with a CRC or other error. If the CD has developed a glitch, we can hope that this might confirm it. If the entire CD copies OK, try running the install from the files on the hard drive. (Keep in mind that there could be something on the CD to “prevent” the copy process. I don’t know anything about that arena.)
