I currently use Access97 on my PC. Is there a Palm data base program which I can use and sync with Access?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 22, 2001 at 2:14 am #1776524thinkDB fromthinkbytes is a nice relational database for the Palm. It’s tabbed forms allow you to put more info on the screen without clutter.
It consists of three parts, the palm component (which is relatively flawless), the ‘desktop’ which allows database creation, and data input, and import and export capabilities (version 2 which was just released is pretty buggy, but they seem to be frantically trying to fix it) including Access 97/2000, and the DBsync component. This last part is a thinkDB/Access record level sync conduit. It is probably what you want. Planned is DBsync for ODBC so that you are not tied to Access
. At this point, if you have Access on your computer, you can do an ODBC sync using Access as your ODBC server.
DISCLAIMER: I have no relationship with this company, but I’ve been using and really like this product. Other than AvantGo for web browsing, you can use thinkDB to design any app you want on your Palm, thereby avoiding having to load many other programs.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 22, 2001 at 2:58 am #1776527I found this on the “Smart Access” site:—
Although the PalmPilot won’t run Microsoft Access, you needn’t feel left out. Users do want to collect their data on a pocket-sized device, but they want to manage and analyze it with desktop tools like Access and Excel. In June of 1996, Pendragon was inspired to create a mobile data collection tool for the PalmPilot that would interface with desktop databases. Pendragon chose Microsoft Access as the desktop component for our product, which was later named Pendragon Forms. Pendragon Forms was designed with two goals in mind: to be used by non-programmers, and to be extended by developers and power users.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 22, 2001 at 4:01 am #1776493You could try this.
HanDBase is a simple DB you can use on your palm. You can link HanDBase to Access with dbX. HandBase is available as a download from palm sites. I have listed more info on dbX below.
Rupert…
HANDBASE TO ACCESS LINK:——–
dbX is a database transaction application for the Palm database system HanDBase from DDH Software and Microsoft Access 97.
dbX has many new and time saving features like: Group Mode transfers for multiple PDB files, Multi user support, True Syncing with Access Tables! no more duplicate records in Access. HanDBase to Access datatype conversion. dbX has different transfer settings to suit you needs. For Group transfers you can select: Always Ask during operation, Always Append New data / Update Old, Always Overwrite. These settings can be applied on a per-file basis, and allow dbX to run virtually “silently” converting many files without user interaction.Se more info on ;;;– [URL} http://www.5star-shareware.com/PalmPilot/D…office2000.html

AskWoody LoungerMay 8, 2001 at 1:36 am #1783085For what it’s worth I just downloaded MobileDB (http://www.handmark.com/). The desktop part looked good but when I downloaded it to my Palm Vx and ran it from the launcher it crashed. I had to do a soft reset.
I’d like to find a simple app that will just display a csv or tab delimited file that uses the first row as field names. Is there such a beast?

AskWoody LoungerJune 15, 2001 at 4:51 am #1784538If all you want is to “just display a csv or tab delimited file” why not try List.
What does list do? Its a simple database. Modeled after the address book, it should be intuitive to use, its supposed to look just like every other pilot application. If you just want to use list on your Pilot you can stop reading here, go use it
List is compatible with ALL versions of PalmOS. (PalmOS1.0 -> PalmOS3.5)
Example input file:
===cut===
databasename,customfield1,customfield2,category1,category2
category1,field1data,field2data,notedata
===cut===URL: http://www.quux.net/list/download/listfull.zip
Page: http://www.magma.ca/~roo/list/list.htmlFrom what I have seen so far (I just found List myself) it seems to be a simple, easy to use solution for handling simple lists (go figure ).
Hope this helps…
