DAO/ADO (Win XP Access 2003)

I have been using DAO for my primarily desktop applications. Now that I have access to SQL Server, I see that I should use ADO; however, the DAO databases seem to function. I have prepared several Access projects using only DAO, and they seem to work.

ADO was intended to be the successor to DAO. It is in many ways more flexible and more powerful than DAO – it provides a generalized interface to very different kinds of data. DAO was the default data object model in Access 97 and before, but in Access 2000 and 2002 (XP) ADO became the default (although both can be used). Originally, Microsoft had planned to phase out DAO entirely. But DAO is very efficient when working with the Jet Engine, and in Access 2003 DAO became the default again. Both DAO and ADO can work with SQL server, so I see no compelling reason to switch to ADO now.

I assume that you mean Access 2007. DAO is the default, as it was in Access 2003.
