I’m creating Word templates and I want to access information in an Access XP database for the dropdowns. Do I need to buy the Professional Edition of Office XP in order to do this (thereby putting Access on every workstation) or is the DAO 3.6 Object Library available to do this in the Standard Edition of Office XP?

    Thanks

Use the ADO library to do this (I’m biased). You don’t need to buy anything else.

The file referenced is named Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.5 Library and should be located in

      c:program filescommon filessystemadomsado15.dll

on every PC with IE 4.something+ or Office 97+ installed.

Corrections to this info gladly accepted.

Office 97 didn’t install ADO. Office 2000 was the first version to actually use ADO, and it came with 2.1. The library names are confusing and the version 2.6 library has the same name: msado15.dll! Products like Windows 2000, Office 2000, VB6, SQL Server 2000 and Office XP all install different versions of builds of ADO.
