Version 2.16.0.1004 is available. Use the integrated update checker as Trend Micro

Thanks! The exe has shrunk 50% in the update!

      Thanks, Joe!

Hmm. I downloaded it & it says version 2.15, which is the almost the same as the one from June (except slightly larger). I used the update checker & it told me I had the latest version, whether I run the one from June or from today. confused

The version I downloaded definitely says 2.16-1004 (although you can’t see that in the screenshot), and the window background is now white instead of gray (at least with my color scheme).

This is the screenshot you want! Note that I rename the exe files to include the version number…

        Phil,

Did you use the integrated download? When I last checked the TrendMicro site it was version 2.15 on the CWShredder page.

By integrated, I assume that you mean the button on the dialog box. Yes. Here’s what I get?

          • #974984

            Phil,

That looks like the last Intermute version. If you download the version from TrendMicro and run it you should get something that looks like what Hans posted. Then you can use the button.

Using the Trend Micro v2.15 version and clicking the update button, it checked InterMute for an update and was unable to find one. confused3

              Tony

Another case of “Well, it worked for me!” Just like Hans said it would…

              John

PS A sudden thought just struck me — perhaps you needed to have had Trend Micro‘s v2.15 of CWShredder, because they bought CWShredder from InterMute some time back. The 2.16 update definitely comes from Trend Micro, not from Intermute…

I managed to get it from File Hippo – Download CWShredder 2.16, no idea why the update from 2.15 did not work for me.

            • #975028

FileHippo’s v2.15 of CWShredder.exe is exactly the same as that from Trend Micro. So I’m puzzled, too!

Thanks for the link, Tony. I was able to get the file also. But clicking the update link on either an old copy of 2.15 or a new one, gave me the same message. Funny, I clicked the update link on the new 2.16 & it said “unable to check for updates”.

    • #975078

      Phil,

The same ‘unable…” just happened to me. I could’ve sworn that it worked ok yesterday. Could just be problem with the Trend Micro update server. I’ll try again in a few days.

CWShredder version 2.18 has been released. If you already have CWShredder, start it and click “Check for Update” (this works again, at least for me), otherwise visit Trend Micro

      • #983070

Trend Micro appear to have problems with providing the latest version for download. Though it states version 2.18 on the site I just tried downloading from there and got version 2.15

        File Hippo has version 2.18

        • #983071

Thanks. (I used the built-in Check for Update button and got 2.18)

          • #983086

FWIW, 2.18 seems to have reported a false positive on CWS.Qttasks on my home & work PCs. Don’t know if it is related to the latest version of QuickTime. I have nothing on either PC that changes the IE start page. I’ll investigate more over the weekend at home.

Also note that that link brings you to a download link that says ” REMOVE Cool Web search”?
Rather confusing. Does it install it or remove it?

I know now that it installs it but………..

        • #983162

          Bob,

You install CWShredder so that it will remove Coolweb Search for you – that is what it is for.

            Stuart,

            Clear as mud.
I guess that’s one way to put it!

Version 2.19 has been released. Click “Check for Update” from within CWShredder or File Hippo – Download CWShredder 2.19.
