I did this years ago in office 97, but can’t get it to work now. I have 3 data series in a chart. I want them to rise up one series at a time. When I go to the Custom Animation pane, I can’t select each data series individually without losing the task pane. How do I indicate that each series is to rise up separately?

      Select the chart.
Activate the Custom Animation task pane (Slide Show | Custom Animation).
Select an animation, for example Appear.
The selected animation will appear in the list.
Click the dropdown arrow next to the name of the animation.
Select Effect Options from the dropdown list.
      Activate the Chart Animation tab.
Select the way you want the elements to appear.
      Click OK.

When I go to the Custom Animatio tab, the Group Chart dropdown has only one option–‘As One Object’. I can’t see where I am supposed to select one set of columns at a time.

The extra options are available for some animations only. Select another animation effect, for example Appear. You should then see more options than ‘As one object’.

            As Hans said.

I think you can only use Wipe, Fade, Wheel and Appear. Wipe works well for bar charts and Wheel definitely doesn’t
