    Is there a way to automatically put the current year in an equation?

      To return the current year, enter the following formula in a cell.

      =YEAR(TODAY())

      The value of the formula will be the current year.

      Alternatively, if you only need to display the current year:

      =TODAY()

      and set yyyy as custom format for the cell with the formula. The value of the cell will be the current date, however.
