CTRL-F background color problem

Not sure which forum this belongs in, but since I am using Windows Pro SP3 (64 bit), I decided to post it here. If this is the wrong place, feel free to move it.

My issue pertains to the background color of the CTRL-F function for finding items. For most websites and similar items, CTRL-F has a black background with white text. See item #1 on the attachment. Everything is easy to see and read.

But when I try to use CTRL-F to view the page source of a webpage, The background becomes white, and the text black. Unfortunately the page source also has a white background, so that makes almost everything in the CTRL-F line unreadable. See #2 on the attachment.

Has anyone run into this problem, and if so is there a solution? Or is there some way that I can change the colors so in #2 they are reversed–white text on a black background?

That will be a function of your browser. What browser are you using?

My primary browser is Pale Moon 25 (a Firefox offshoot). But the problem also occurs on Firefox 37, which uses the same Ctrl+F structure.

IE 10, Chrome, and Opera 12.15 use more of a popup box for Find, and the problem does not exist with them.

I don’t know if you can change the colour settings in FF / Pale Moon. Have you asked on their forums?

When I use ctrl-f on my FF 37 it opens the box at the bottom of the browser not like in your screenshots. I looked for a ‘find’ option to see if that was a setting but I didn’t find anything. Have you an addon that might cause this?

Mine open at the bottom also on Firefox & Pale Moon. To make it easier to see the one with the white background when viewing the page source, I shortened up the height of each page to make the CTRL+F entry easier to spot. Sorry for the confusion.

And I could never find a setting for ‘Find’ either, which is why I posted.

In Pale Moon (Alt) Tools > Status bar options > Status > General tab > Status text section > Show Status in… <— try changing this?

No idea how you'd change the setting in Firefox without an Add-on.

My normal setting for Show Status in: is Status Bar. I tried all the other three options. Only ‘None’ had any effect in Pale Moon. None of them had any effect on the ‘page source’ page. I also tried some of the other choices in Status Bar options, but none had any effect.

I posted on the Pale Moon forum yesterday, but no response yet.

What Themes and other extensions do you have?

I have three themes, in addition to the default. I tested them all. No effect.

I have lots of extensions. Attached is a list of them. I have had this problem for a long time, so I have no idea which extensions were added before the problem occurred, and which after.

I also have 6 User Styles.

Extended Status Bar leaps out at me, Harry, as do a number of others that look like they change Styles/Themes, etc.

Another point – there have been a number of extensions that don’t remove settings after uninstalling; similarly, the older your Profile, the more likely it is to have ‘minor’ corruptions, probably more so if the Profile was originally imported from Firefox.

Some of my extensions are several years old, and I did not send you the list of those that I have uninstalled. But I came to Pale Moon from Opera 12.15, so I added Firefox later as one of the browsers I use to test the website I do for a non-profit.

It would help me if I knew exactly what Find should look like. So since you have Pale Moon, could you attach 2 screenshots that might give me a clue as to where to look first.
1. Do a Ctrl+F on this forum webpage, so I can see what the colors are for a normal webslte.
2. Then right click, and choose ‘View Page Source’. Then do a CTRL+F on the Source page.

My Pale Moon equates roughly to the Classic view so the colours aren’t likely to be the same as yours. no Aero/Themes/Personas here, one Plugin plus four Extensions.

It was one of my User Styles. Removed it, and now the ‘Find’ bar on ‘View Source Page’ looks exactly likes yours.

BTW, I live in the US, and have been in Cardiff several times. Mostly associated with auto rallies.

Excellent news, Harry!

I used to do some background stuff and spectate on rallies locally, back in the day, round about the time when this guy was starting out on his pro career and the forests echoed with noise from the likes of the Stratos and Integrale HF (Martini colours were best).

Small world, it is. I was in Cardiff in the late 70’s at the RAC as a Sports Car Club of America official trying to learn how to host what are now known as World Championship Rallies. The RAC organizing crew were of great help to us.

Then I was back in the area every year from 1998 through 2007 competing on what is know as LeJog, an endurance rally for historic cars that runs from Lands End to John O’Groats.

LeJog? People cycle that unsupported, Harry – one guy has done it unsupported by swimming and by cycling and by running…

But yes, in an old classic, it would still be quite an adventure, though maybe not quite as adventurous as this was though?
