    In my header, I placed cross references that that read from the cover of the document. My CR’s are: {STYLEREF “Document: Project Name” * MERGEFORMAT} ; {STYLEREF “Document: Qualifying Title” * MERGEFORMAT} I manually entered a “;” between the two, BUT the second reference doesn’t always exist and therefore no “;” need exist. Is there a way that I can place the “;” into the cross reference? I’ve been playing with it and just not figured it out. – jody

      I’m not sure I understand your question fully musical1, but here it goes. Have you tried using bookmarks? Then if a bookmarked area comes up blank, it will automatically put in a blank. I have used this to add my firm name to the second page header as well as a Recipients name, though not using the STYLEREF code. Sometimes a recipients name is not added immediately, and therefore that part of my second page header is left blank.

      I hope this helps.

      Hi jody,

      I think you will need an if field.

      Instead of the “; “, use
      { if {styleref “Document: Qualifying Title” } = “” “” “; ” }
      (if the styleref returns an empty string print nothing, else print “; “)

      cheers Klaus

        I can drop that crossreference right between my other 2 references?

        When I try it, It actually returned the value “Document:Qualifying Title”. I’m not sure I was following all of your Quotes meanings. – J

          Sorry: The style name should be in quotes. Hope it works now? crossfingers

          Word’s help has a page with more information; I hope you’ll find it if you look for “Field functions: If field”.

          cheers Klaus
