nnCron LITE from nnSoft is a powerful adjunct or alternative to the Windows Task Scheduler, when it falls short. It’s a clone of the Unix cron scheduler and should be a natural for command line junkies
. It has more flexible control over tasks than the Task Scheduler, including support for Forth, either as plugins or via the command line.

AskWoody LoungerApril 18, 2003 at 10:00 am #669464Funny you should mention this, Tim. I downloaded a copy of the lite version a few weeks ago and I can’t for the life of me remember where I learned of it. Maybe it was from you….. I’m looking for something to use at the television station and we’ve previously used an OLD Norton thingie. We use the free PowerPoint Viewer for putting slides on-air, created by the non-technical folks, so Master Control doesn’t have to do it. Now, I need to see if this app has any capability to STOP an app once it’s already running. I don’t think it does – do you know?

AskWoody LoungerApril 18, 2003 at 11:53 am #669472No, not necessarily. The piece of software Tim recommended is a “scheduler” program to use in place of the built-in Windows Task Scheduler, which is sometimes a tad flaky. I just happened to use a TV slide presentation system as a scheduling example. At certain times of the day, our master control folks will put on-air the signal from a computer in another area that will be running a PowerPoint slideshow.

AskWoody LoungerApril 19, 2003 at 3:52 am #669624I don’t believe the “Lite” version can kill apps. But, there is a shareware version that includes “stop any running process” in it’s skill set. You could also look at setting up a script to do the “stop”, and use nncron to run it. I think the script could be VBS, Forth, AutoIt, or whatever takes your fancy (I haven’t had time to play with nncron much, but like what I’ve seen so far).
“butt in”?
Isn’t that the raison d’etre of the Lounge?
