I want to create a document that will guide someone through a process such as signing onto website and navigating through all the screens to do the task at hand. I want the document to have a copy of the exact screen they will see and I want to be able to add a comment to that screen capture and maybe add an arrow or other graphic for additional emphasis. And, I want to obviously add all the necessary comments above or below the screen capture.
Can someone suggest a piece, or a combination of tools that can do this? Preferebly free software…

This thread from June lists a number of product recommendations, including FastStone, Irfanview, and Jing: Gadwin Print Screen.

Most free tools for screen capturing and annotation are free for personal or home use rather than for any (business/commercial) use, so you might not get down to free, but hopefully you can get to “affordable” and “worth it.”

Edit: As for a container to hold images and text, Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.org Writer come to mind.

If you have Microsoft Word 2010, you can use the screen capture tool in it.
