Creating a template?

I have created a project for an annual event that I work on.
It runs from Sept to May the next year and consists of approx 100 tasks, each on a specific date.
Q: Is there a way that I can create a template out of this, using it year on year, simply by changing the start and/or finish date?

Any help apppreciated.

As far as I know Not if you have put in date contraints. Ie happens on 31st march 2001 rather than the Friday following the previous event. Do they actually hapen on the same date as the previous year – ie can happen on a Saturday (probably a non working day) when they happened on a Friday last year?

Couldn’t BB save the file as a template? You could select all the tasks and remove date constraints. BB would still have to reenter the dates each year – but it would save time not having to rebuild a task list.

Fine if you are using project 2000 (ie can clear the baseline) or you have not saved one. I got the impression re-entering the dates is what was trying to be avoided. If they were not date constrainted (is contrainted good english????) then there would not be a problem. If however it is just the tasks you are seeking to retain then yes this would be the way forward.

Have you come across the Adjust Dates macro? It’s on the Analysis toolbar in Project 2000 and in the macro list (I think) in Project 98.
Rather than using Project/Project Information to change the project start date, run Adjust Dates and enter the new project start date. All the constraint dates are then moved forward by the same amount.

If you have a lot of tasks with constraints, changing the project start date may mean having to go through all the constraints, altering the constraint dates one by one. The Adjust Dates macro does away with the need for this.

Before doing anything, make a back up copy of your project, just to be on the safe side. Don’t change the project start date using Project/Project Information on the menu bar – instead look for the Adjust Dates macro.

In Project 98, you can run it from the macro window (choose Tools/Macro/Macros on the menu bar). In Project 2000, there is a button for the Adjust Dates macro on the analysis toolbar.

When you run the macro, a dialog box appears, asking you to enter the new project start date. The macro then moves all the constraint dates in the project by the same amount of time that you moved the start date, saving a lot of tedious clicking and typing.
