I am in the process of creating a shared clip catalogue.

Is there a reason for saving it on the network instead of saving it in your clip catalog? I’m not sure that clip art from the Microsoft online catalog can be saved effectively as a standalone file – the .cli file extension isn’t something most graphics programs know about. You might try saving it as a WMF file and see if that can be saved independently and then pulled into clip organizer.

I work with several people in the department and they would like a shared catalogue – I would do the work searching for the suitable Microsoft clipart.

I have been following the steps in the help menu in the clipart catalogue regarding creating a shared clipart catalogue, and it seems that the instructions are seriously flawed or I am missing something.

When saving clipart from online, there is no way to save it except as a cil file or by right-clicking it can only be saved as a “gif”, which seriously erodes the quality of the picture.

To copy and paste the picture into Photoshop, again, the quality erodes.

Thank you for your time in answering my post. By double-clicking the clipart which is the next reply to my post, may be the answer, which again, makes me realize that the “help” menu was seriously flawed.

I think Echo Swinford identified the trick. Also note that some things related to clip art from the web have changed as 2002/XP and the 2003 were released. There is a revised version of the help file available for Office 2000, but I have no idea if it covers this sort of issue. Another reference you might like to look at is Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 244830 which relates to creating a clipart catalog for distribution.

I don’t know about creating a shared catalog (I think the KB article Wendell posted covers that, though), but http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q160475/%5B/url%5D explains what double-clicking a CIL does and where it stores the clip.

CIL files are rather like ZIP files — they include the actual clip (WMF, JPG, GIF, whatever) plus the keywords and category information. You have to double-click to extract the clips into your clip gallery before doing anything with the clips themselves.
