Create diagonal text (2000 SP3)

Is it possible to create diagonal text for use in a diagram? We’ve tried using a text box and WordArt, but I can’t seem to get anything to work. Looking for something on a 45 degree angle.

You can do it in Excel. Copy and paste special as a Windows Metafile.

Word itself does not support diagonal text, but a WordArt object can be rotated to any angle. See attached example. The only other possibility I can think of is to insert a single-cell Excel table into the document. Excel supports text at any angle.
