    Greetings,

    I have a bookmark in an MS-Word 97 SR-2 document (report.doc) called ‘report3’.

I have created a hyperlink in my html page to the Word document bookmark like so:

    Compliance Report

This results in nothing. I wait for a couple of seconds and the browser indicates it’s accessing the document and then it says ‘DONE’ with no results. If I remove the bookmark portion (#report3) the document opens at the top and you have to scroll to find ‘report 3’.

Is this doable or am I setting it up incorrectly? The Word document has the bookmark set up.

    Thank you for your advice!

    Luis

It is late and I’m feeling kinda dopey but I believe that:
      Compliance Report
      should be
      Compliance Report
to indicate the protocol – file access being used.

      Cheers

        Catharine,

Thank you for replying! You don’t have to use the ‘file’ to have a successful link. I use it on the unix as well as microsoft servers. I have linked extensions such as ‘.doc, .xls, .ppt, .pdf, .txt’ without the ‘file’ reference. However, I did try your suggestion. Still no success in reaching a bookmarked area in a Word document.

        Thanks again!

I had no idea that this could be done … so I tried it on a web site I maintained and it worked fine for me (w/o the “file”) … but then again I have Word 2000, and I browse with IE 5.5 (with MSWord inside of the browser)

If I try the same thing with Netscape 6.1 … it opens the file in MSWord directly and DOES NOT go to the bookmark.

          Ditto with using Netscape 4.74.

So I imagine it only works when browsing with Internet Explorer … and with Word working “inside” the browser.

          Hope this helps.
