COUNTIF, or DCOUNT?

If I have a spreadsheet of tabular data (column headings, not necessarily defined as a Table), is there any benefit to using COUNTIF vs. DCOUNT? COUNTIF is more straightforward to define, and doesn’t require a criteria table, but I’m wondering if there are benefits to using DCOUNT that I’m missing?

Excel 2013, if it makes a difference.

Hi

Use the COUNTIF and/or COUNTIFS rather than DCOUNT.
It is simpler.
As you say, you need separate ranges for your criteria with the DFUNCTIONS, which can be inconvenient.
(DFUNCTIONS are more efficient than equivalent array formulas)

My advice would be to use CountIFs it the criteria are fairly simple. When the selection criteria start to get complicated I think you would do better with the DCount functionality. YMMV! HTH :cheers:
