AskWoody PlusJuly 18, 2022 at 8:40 am #2463377Great article about a potentially invaluable tool — many’s the time I needed to re-paste something I copied to the clipboard three copies ago, only to have something else paste in that I had clipboarded later.
Just one tweak to the article, for both you and the Editor: in the line near the top that reads
” that lets you store everything you copy (right-click and Copy, or Ctrl+V) ”
I think you mean Ctrl+C.

AskWoody PlusJuly 18, 2022 at 9:18 am #2463491I’m slowly weaning myself from Win 7–Office 2010 to Win 10–MS365 and missed the legacy action of the Office clipboard.
On the MS forums only one person answered my plea and his workaround required bouncing through multiple apps and creating files for individual clips. This sounds like it might be my answer. I just have to live with it for a while.

GuestJuly 20, 2022 at 6:34 am #2464508Huh. I don’t get the appeal. It sounds like it makes more work if I have to pull up the app and then deliberately drag and drop, then pull it up again and drag and drop again.
What I would want is just an app that holds everything I copy and paste. The main disadvantage of the Windows Clipboard history feature is that (1) it requires a keystroke, when I’m most often just using my mouse and (2) there’s no way to make the item actually be the main item on the clipboard, so I can paste it multiple times as necessary.
All I want is an app that lets me click on an icon to see a quick list of everything, and moves whatever item I choose to the top. Sure, maybe not moving it is occasionally useful, but that could be handled by dragging.

You can pin an item to Clipboard history and then after you’ve pasted it once further Ctrl-Vs will paste it multiple times as necessary:

AskWoody PlusJuly 20, 2022 at 3:16 pm #2464648For the last 15 years or so, I use an old, clipboard program (now unsupported and last updated in 2013) that still works fine on Win10 called Clipmate. It was shareware and I originally paid $35 for it.
I’ve looked at a large variety of clipboard functionality programs over the years, always hoping to find something that would be substantially similar to Clipmate but have yet to find anything.
I effectively use the program as a database with over 40MB of data stored. It has much functionality most of which I don’t really use.
Besides the hierarchical org, one item really important to me is the ability to easily capture articles/items WITH THE SOURCE URL so that I can always go back to the original source or provide the source if I am sharing the info with anyone.
I wish someone would copy this UI, which is so easy to use because I know that the program is eventually going to die for good.
You can go to http://www.thornsoft.com/index.htm to download the program for a 30 day eval. Given that it is no longer supported, I am unsure what will happen after 30 days. There are probably keys floating around on the net for those so inclined.
Here’s an example of the main page in my usage. There are many category sub-folders under most of the left-side primary entries, which themselves have further sub-folders, etc., etc..

AskWoody PlusAugust 6, 2022 at 10:32 am #2468031Why is the stand alone LARGER than the installable exe?? Is this not a little strange?
Ok I am curious, and leery of clipboard programs but this does seem very useful.
Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.
