Copying an Outlook profile

To support some pilot work with new Exchange based services, we want to set users up with an additonal Outlook profile, that is a copy of their original profile, but with the Exchange server changed in the Exchange service.
Thers is no obvious way of copying a complete outlook profile – unless someone knows better???
Creating a new one from scratch is a real pain, ‘cos all the users PST files, and outlook sidebar stuff has to be reset up. I found some info on the MS web site that makes it reasonably easy to copy over the sidebar info, but cannot find a way to easily bring over the PST and other services that the users has configured.

Microsoft offers a tool called: User Profile Migration Aid.
Personally not used it till now, but sounds helpfull.

outcmd.dat and *.fav cover the customized features – fav is dependant on the mailbox, do it wouldn’t be helpful if you are changing servers. the same applies to rules (*.rwz) they are tied to the mailbox and may need repointed to each folder.

otherwise, export the windows messaging subsystem reg key. that has everything in it you need and changing the server should be easy enough.

i’m curious, why are the users using psts? using the mailbox store is generally a much better idea.

Thanks for the info – just what I needed.
We have folks using PST files because Exchange mailbox size is limited to 50 – 100Mb, we have users with 100’s of Mb of ‘filed’ mail in PST file(s). With the size limitations on the Exchange database, we have to limit how much space user’s get on the Exchange server.

if you can get the users to do this… i’d suggest using the exchange mailbox for mail but keep pst(s) in the profile for old messages. keep current mail in the mailbox and have them move the old mail to the pst for long term storage. users can have as many psts as they want in the profile and can add and remove then as needed. They drag and drop the mail to a pst.

They can also drag mail out of the mailbox into a folder on the hard drive. I prefer using a pst, since it’s one file on the drive rather than 100’s of messages, but i know a few who do it this way, especially for cd archives.
