When I try to copy or move an appointment between two different Outlook 365 calendars, it no longer works and an error pops up saying “copy between calendars is not supported”. The calendars are in two different accounts I’m logged into, and this has always worked in the past. It’s always been annoying that there is no way to select a destination calendar when importing .ics files into Outlook, as it always goes to the default calendar. The copy/paste option was always the way around this limitation, until now.

Is this yet another improvement for our own good that MS has decided to roll out quietly, or is something broken? I just spent a fruitless 40 minutes on the phone with MS first-level support and have requested escalation to second level, as it is definitely broken from my point of view.

    Thanks, Peter

      To help clarify:

      • Are you using Outlook 365 as a consumer or a business login?
      • When you say Outlook 365 that means to me that you are not using the Business version of Outlook (the desktop client).
      • Do you have multiple accounts connected under one login? I.e. left side screen showing multiple accounts?
      • Logged into Outlook 365 as a consumer account (foo@outlook.com) does not appear to allow me to “copy” a calendar entry to another foo@gmail.com account for example.
      • Logged into Outlook 365 as a business account (foo@mybiz.com) allows me to add my personal foo@outlook.com and show my personal calendar as a “busy” block without detail to others. I can turn off the various calendars but cannot cut and paste between them.
      • Can you share some screen shots to clarify?

Consumer version – actually two different outlook.com accounts – one is mine and the other is shared with my wife as our to-do list. Always used to be able to drag an appointment from one to the other, and I had to do that because importing appointments (delivered as .ics files) into Outlook always goes to the default calendar, which is not the one my wife and I share, hence the need to drag the appointment over to the other account’s calendar. Always used to work – for years – and then suddenly it doesn’t anymore. The link in Susan’s reply confirms that what I’m trying to do has been discontinued for my own good (!).

Fortunately the MS article gives the reg edit to disable the block, so I’m happy.

Thanks Susan – you’re amazing, but I knew you’d have a way to discover the truth! it’s kinda sad that I couldn’t find that article, but even more sad that MS first line support couldn’t! I just wonder what all those corporate admins must be feeling where they support many peoples calendars!

I’ll try the reg fix and see what happens, although I’ll have to check the version I’m using – I’m pretty sure I’m neither Beta Channel nor Current Channel Preview.

of course it would be nice if MS gave us a way to choose the destination calendar when importing .ics files – then this wouldn’t be a problem for me, but I suppose that’s too much to ask.

        many thanks, Peter

Just checked my Outlook 365 version and it is neither of those two listed in the article – mine says “Current Channel: Version 2311 (17029.20068)” – not sure how subtle the difference is, but it’s not the preview.

However – the reg fix works beautifully, so I’m all set!

        Thank you again!

Hello – I am having the same issue with the meetings not being copied when it has worked fine for years.  Matter of fact I literally could click+ hold and drag the meeting to another calendar.  So frustrating its not working.

I tried the workaround but it still did not work.  Could someone tell me how to determine why?  For the record, I am NOT at all familiar with programs etc.

      Thank you.

I have a Microsoft 365 Apps for Business.  In About Outlook it says I have Version 2311 (build 17029.20108 Click-to Run) if that helps.

Or maybe I did the workaround wrong…. ugh
