Window 10 x64 ver 22H2, after November CU install  a Copilot Icon appeared on the Left side of  to lower Taskbar.  It also appears on Start Menu and on Apps page in Settings with today’s date 11/30/24.

It is only 432kb in size and looks like it can be Uninstalled.  The Icon can be removed from the Taskbar with a right click.

Size wise it is unlikely an App.

Remember something about this awhile back as being a stub or placeholder or the like, but can’t find the info now.

What is this?  And what to do with it?

I uninstalled it in Settings->Apps. No problem.

Yes, I have just installed the November CU for Windows 10 Pro x64 22H2 and discovered the Copilot icon on the left hand side of the task bar. I live in Europe, which is probably why I haven’t encountered Copilot before now.

The key question in my mind is whether to uninstall it via Settings > Apps, or whether to hide and disable it according to the various pieces of advice on this forum? I’m tempted simply to uninstall it.

Uninstall first and then block.  🙂

Thanks. But, if I uninstall it, why should I bother to block it? What precisely would I be blocking?

You want to block reinstallation, per PCKano’s post just above.

            cheers, Paul

Please forgive me, but I am on a learning curve regarding the management of Copilot at the moment.

As far as I can see, PKCano’s post just above, and posts in other threads, are primarily concerned with disabling Copilot once installed (that is, preventing it from performing any function) and hiding Copilot once installed (that is, preventing user access to it). I cannot identify precisely what I need to do in order to prevent Copilot from being reinstalled. If I can prevent it from being reinstalled, I don’t need to bother with disabling and hiding it.

I have followed the links provided, but they appear to be concerned with an object that appears on the right hand side of the task bar and cannot be uninstalled. No such object has appeared on my PC. Instead, after installing the November Windows 10 CU, I have an object on the left hand side of the task bar, which can be unpinned from the task bar and uninstalled. In fact, it appears to be an app, like all the other apps that came with Windows 10.

Accordingly, I am minded to unpin it from the task bar and leave it completely hidden from view, just like all my other apps. (I don’t use apps on my desktop PC, so I have removed all of them from the start menu, which now does not contain a list of apps nor any pinned tiles. I use apps only on my iPad and on my Android based mobile phone.) So, provided it just lies there somewhere in the depths of my PC, twiddling its thumbs and doing absolutely nothing, I’m happy to leave it alone.

I did read on some Web site that, in the settings of the app, I should turn off App permissions > Background apps, which I have done.
