Recently I posted an inquiry about changing the color of visited links in Google search results post 712,688 . I received two useful suggestions on how to effect this style change. I recently found by accident that this feature happens automatically if you use the Firefox add-on Cooliris Previews

The high contrast color coding of visited links also works just fine on the Lounge. I find this especially useful when quickly going through a long list of search results since it prevents me from revisitng a post that was not germane. The other feature of this add-on is speed. Once you have opened a preview window you can just mouse over (no clicking) the other posts in the Lounge window and fly thorugh the postings given the Lounge’s new high response server.

There are other cooliris features that you may like, but the big one for me is that it has improved my efficiency in reading postings on the Lounge.

hmmn I want to like this, but (first impressions) I can’t see much advantage over “middle-click” to open a new tab, or “right-click” & “Open in new window”. There maybe merit in the “Send link” (except for the need to register) and “Add to stack” functiions – I’ll give it a chance for a few days in case it grows on me as I play with its options. Colouring visited links works, but is probably a personal preference thing.

PicLens from the same crew looks more interesting, and promising in the long term, especially if more sites enable themselves to support it.

        Tim,
So my “style don’t get a grip on your attention” ( a Chris Smither’s song lyric ) . Yea, I suppose the entire add-on is a personal preference kind of thing. In response to your specific comparison, If I want to open a forum in a new window it is two clicks and a mouse move and with Cooliris there are no clicks just point at the forum. Plus, and maybe you can help me out on this issue, if I right click to open in a new window that new window inherits the size and position of my main browser window, which is typically what I do not want and if I do resize and replace, that information is lost when I click on the next forum to open in a window. The Cooliris preview window is placed wherever I left it previously and retains its previous size.

I suppose the bottom line is that for me, and the way I like to work, the combination of the new Lounge speed and the Cooliris add-on is a step up in efficiency. I would not be surprised to hear of other and more efficient ways to bounce around the Lounge.

Yep, very much “horses for courses”, etc. grin

If you leave your “preview window open, with the address bar visible, after resizing and positioning, you can drag & drop links to the address bar. The window will keep its size, shape & location (unless you get mugged by one of those recalcitrant sites that “know” what size, shape & location you “need”).

If you want to retain the settings for your main browser window, make sure you close the “preview” window before the main one.
