I’m looking for links to web sites that feature all-you-can-cook on a simple(*) coffee maker. I saw a link about a year ago, but Googling now just renders a slew of advertisements for coffee-makers.

If anyone has any links that will start me off I’d be grateful.

I’ve all but abandoned the coffee-maker as a means of brewing coffee or tea, and thought to (mental play) see what can be done in the way of slow-cooking.

I can’t see why one couldn’t do a half-decent stew, or even boiled eggs, given the right timing.

(*) “simple” as in 12-cup, on/off switch, no timer.

What kind of coffee-maker is a simple coffee-maker?
Typically, the ones in the UK are filter types such as this Braun, and I can’t see how you could cook anything with that – or do you mean you would warm stuff up in the coffee-pot using the hotplate?

Leif, thanks for the response. Yes, the picture says it all. A Pyrex(tm) pot on a hot plate with a 12-cup reservoir and a basket with a filter.

I am thinking of recording as many recipes as i can that use the simple technology available for about $cdn20 in most stores. For years I traveled with a smaller two-cup electric coil-in-a-jug, but now I wonder why I wouldn’t contemplate cooking a rich stew in a motel room.

Boiled eggs: If 3 mins is what’s required, why not place an egg in the basket and let the steam/water pass over it? Worth a try. Or else place eggs in glass jug and take them out when the 12-cups are passed. Worth a try.

Stew: It’s a glass pot, so it washes well. Two serves of meat, potato, carrot, gravy etc. Should be done in about 30 mins, I would think, with boiling water kicking it off through the basket (put the herbs, gravy in there?)

Many snacks such as noodles, pasta etc. should be doable.

You might want to consider this information before you go and brew a stew. grin

            Thanks Doc.

Why would you want to boot brown eggs? Did they come out tough?

I’d assume so..if he were able to boot it and still be able to eat it for breakfast…. (though then he may be worried about breaking teeth)…. hmmn

          Hi,
My Braun coffeepot only brings coffee to a temp of 158 F. You’d want any meat you have in a stew to reach an internal temperature of 160 – 165 F; it’s highly doubtful if a coffeemaker’s warming plate would produce a high enough temperature to insure food safety. But, since you’re already experimenting with cooking in your coffeepot, make sure you use a good, calibrated food thermormeter to check the internal temperatures of whatever you’re ingesting. None of us here at the Lounge want to hear of your spending time in the hospital due to food poisoning!
