Seeking free/shareware that will convert a Powerpoint (2002/XP) presentation to ‘.MPG’ (MPEG-1 Layer 2) or to ‘.AVI’ and then to ‘.MPG’.

This here one could be your ticket Bruce. It’s code is written by the same company that makes Powerpoint. Seriously, I’m not sure if it will do everything you want but I think it might. Producer is a free download. I’ll look into some of the 3rd party PP enhancers and enablers–I know I’ve seen some later and link them.

        Hi, SMBP ~

Producer will import, but not export audio, video, image files and the output file type is XML which is browser reliant. This info, however, is saved and duly noted as it is an excellent resource for future presentations built with/around Powerpoint.

I started to say I feared that. But it’s always worth having Producer–I’ve seen some nifty demos of it and you can use it to whip together presentations very quickly and drag and drop and tweak your presentation. The new Producer 2003 Beta is available for downlad and has some new features and will cross platform with support for Netscape and MAC. You also may get a good answer to this question without taking much time by hitting this Microsoft Powerpoint Chat July 17 Thursday at 1PM your time and submitting a question about available programs to do this. Also don’t forget there is a Powerpoint section in the lounge that may be able to nail this for you.

Ed: I see Vincenzina already posted there for this.[/size]

I remember some products that convert PowerPoint to Flash, which is more interactive than MPEG. Why MPEG? Is this a photo album slideshow?

        Hi, Jefferson ~

I am helping Vincenzina w/ a Powerpoint presentation that I mistakenly suggested could be played via the Sony Mavica which is married to a presentation TV monitor. The Sony Mavica runs 8mm CD-Rs and can play as well as create MPGs, so I would like to convert the PPT/PPS to an end-result format of MPG.

      Hi Bruce,

I’m sure there might be a better solution and I’m sure you already know this, but just in case ~

      * Save each slide as a .bmp
      * Export the bunch of .bmps to .mpg (I really don’t have the time to make a search but I’m sure there are plenty of progs. that do this)

The big drawback is, the lossy conversion won’t let you boast that grrreat animated presentation smile

      Just a suggestion

        Hi, Die ~

You are correct – I do not wish to lose the transition from slide to slide. There are ~400 slides already saved in a presentation as ‘.pps’. I have heard there may be ways to convert to avi or other file formats, but the end result needs to be mpeg1 layer2 ‘.mpg’.

indezine has a tutorial on using Hypercam to capture a presentation as an AVI.
I think that there are a number of sharware products that will convert AVI to MPEG but it is not something that I have ever done.
