My wife had OL97 installed on her home computer with Exchange server. The system was set up for offline synchronization and generated an “exchange.ost” file with all the contacts/e-mail etc.

She no longer has the exchange connection (changed companies) and I am upgrading to OL 2000. Is there any way to convert the .ost file into a .pst file so we can continue using the old data? Ideally I want to run OL in Internet Only mode. I tried setting up OL to work with an exchage server and made it generate the “outlook.ost” file by specifying “work offline”. I then copied the old .ost file and renamed it, but the system says I must connect at least once to the exchange server before the offline files become available. I clearly am no longer able to do this.

    Any suggestions?

how long ago did she change companies and rmeove the exchange connection? if within the past couple of days and you use win98, you can recover it.

otherwise, you’ll need to pay for a conversion utility. see http://www.ost2pst.com
