• Converting from Exchange to IMAP

I this is a duplicate of the post by Anonymous, I apologize, for that one was me as well.  I was unable to open the post, and I certainly am not “Anonymous”, so I figured I would repost.

My Exchange account is driving me batty, taking up to 10-15 seconds to change folders.

Can I export all to a PST, set up the account as an IMAP, and then import all back in?

      I would not expect so.
Mail server interfaces are either POP3, IMAP or Exchange. POP3 and IMAP are often used on the same server, but Exchange rarely has another interface – Exchange users use Outlook and want all the integration that goes with that.

Talk to your mail provider to see what options you have, including changing provider.

Oh my.  It’s all through Microsoft I believe, Paul.  OK, I’ll check with them.

      Thanks

If the Exchange server is configured to allow POP or IMAP you can set that up. BUT, why? On your Exchange account how much data do you store locally? You could be inadvertently causing much more network traffic than you think.

Wait, why would you want to export everything to PST? Are you also changing providers or at least servers?

I mean it can be a bit weird to connect to the same server twice with different protocols but AFAICT there’s no reason why that shouldn’t work… and Office365 Exchange Online can usually do IMAP just fine and should have the same mailbox contents via both IMAP and “native” protocol.

Other content than regular mail, though (calendar, contacts, etc) … for some reason IMAP access to those apparently just isn’t allowed nowadays, but ActiveSync does work.

OK guys.  I think it was just some network quirk, because it seems netter. Thanks.
