Convert .wmv to .mpeg

Windows Movie Maker outputs files as .wmv even if the clips were imported as .mpegs.

Does anyone know of a free utility that will convert .wmv files into .mpegs?

I’ve also heard that TMPGEnc Net “makes superb mpeg1 video”, but you must first rename the wmv extension to asf.
