PDA synchs OK but in the PDA address list every now and then an entry which is SPRINT PCS in Outlook’s contacts will display as PCS, SPRINT.

Anyone know why this is not consistent and only appears a few times in the whole address book?

Using Intellisync with a Palm III and Outlook 2000 on XP.

    Thanks,
    Jester

You need to examine your Outlook contacts and make sure that the entries that are being incorrectly displayed on your Palm are entered properly. I don’t really understand whether “SPRINT PCS” is just an example and you’re having problems with company names that are more than one word being parsed incorrectly, but I’m guessing that the entries have been parsed as “SPRINT”=firstname and “PCS”=lastname, thus they get displayed as “PCS, SPRINT”. So, you need to change those entries like this: “SPRINT PCS”=lastname. Does that help?

For the original poster, be sure to change from “Lastname, Firstname” in the “File As” for the specific Contact. I have the same problem when I forget to do so, as in the following.

If I enter “Call Center” as a Contact and -forget-, for this specific Contact, to change the “File As” setting to “First Last” or “Company”, then I get the result of the original poster, namely that the Contact shows in my Palm as “Center, Call”.

But, Keely, I still think there’s some bug in the Palm Sync Software parsing, because I have problems with Contacts which are filed as Company and have three or four word, or more, names, such as “Los Gatos Service Center”, which keeps being imported as “Center, Los Gatos Service”, no matter how often I fix it.

It’s been some time since I’ve used Outlook as my desktop PM so I can’t recall if this was a problem for me. You might want to google it and see if you can find anyone else that has dealt with this problem and confirm your suspicion it’s a bug.

Thanks. I have forwarded this on to the user and believe this may be the case.

For Keely, the example of “PCS SPRINT” versus “SPRINT PCS” is an actual entry and one which represents the issue.

Monday I will find out if playing with the way this is entered, including playing with first name, last name, etc., shows a pattern.

Thanks to both of you for sharing your insights.

          Thanks John.

I have created an entry to match the client pattern of SPRINT PCS and when I synched my m130 I got exactly what the client got. At least knowing this is occuring due to what I call a false parsing, we can either enter the contacts with this in mind OR, heavens, use an underscore for the space and force our will upon the free spirited Palm.
