    Hi all,

A while back, I saw something about limiting incoming email only to the contacts in either the address book or the contact list. I cannot remember if this was concerning OE or maybe the hotmail inbox website.

Does anyone know if it is possible to limit incoming email only to those people in either the contact list or the address book with OE?

    Thanks,

AFAIK, it’s only hotmail and is part of the inbox protector.

I just did a little testing with OE5.5’s message rules, and you can set up a rule to block out any mail from a sender who is not in a given list. Check the “Where the From line contains people”, click on the Address Book button, highlight every entry in the Address Book, and add to the list. You can use the Options button to choose whether the rule applies to people in the list, or people not in the list, and then set the rule to move any messages from people not in the list to an “Unknown Sender” folder, and process known senders’ messages normally. Check the messages diverted to “Unknown Sender” to see if any are needed, and delete the rest (adding to the Blocked Sender list if necessary).

Using this rule would require some additional maintenance, since it doesn’t explicitly use “Address Book” or “Contacts” as the source, but I think it would meet your needs.

        Hi David,

I am trying what you suggest. It seems though, after looking at the available rules, that there are a number of options you could apply to messages. Thanks for your input.
