The great buzz word of the new e-conomy seems to be contact management.
While I can imagine that it goes back to the days of IBM and mainframes, actually rolodexes,
at first glance it looks just like a database to me.
I did some searching on the Web and the sample interface I encountered
certainly looks like a dB to me.
I can’t imagine anything requiring the depth of code beyond VB.
Could someone please explain the difference between a regular old database and this software,
or is this type of configuration just ‘Database for Dummies’?

You’re right. I have made a custom contact DB for a person who often calls me out of the blue just to tell me how much they like having their own custom app. And it hardly requires even VB – I use Access or Filmaker Pro to do these things and use just a few lines of code where needed.

Contact Management apps, whether they have their own interface like Outlook or have a fairly simple and dumb UI, are all databases of some description. so are date books, document management systems and data warehouses. Applications tend to get labeled by their purpose rather than their architecture.
