Constant reconfigure (2003/2007)

I have a vista with office 2003 only Word and Access and the full Office 2007. Every time I switch to a different Access I get the configuration or reinstall routine for whichever suite I am switching to. Is that supposed to happen?

This is expected and it is nothing to be concerned about. I have exactly the same scenario on one of my machines.

This should NOT be happening. Seems as though you don’t have proper access to some registry key. Did you install all the software as an administrator?

In general you must install in order from the oldest version to the newest. See Information about using 2007 Office suites and programs on a computer that is running another version of Office for more information.

Can I ask why you are running Office 2007, but still using Word 2003 and Access 2003?

I use Word 2007 but some of my kids are morecomfortable with the old menus still so I left Word 2003 for them to use till during the school break they can learn 07.

I had this probelm with Word 2003 vs 2007
To stop this, run Word 2007, , then close it again. Make a Windows System Restore point, then Start, Run, Regedit. Navigate down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Office 11.0 Word Options. Right-click in the right pane and create a new DWORD value. Name this NoRereg, then double click on it and give it a value of 1.
I haven’t tried this for Access but it’s stopped the long wait in Word

Sorry Joe – you are incorrect. This is EXPECTED behaviour with this particular configuration (Office 2003 & Office 2007) and is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 928091 (this is the same article to which you referred). Read the two paragraphs re: “Windows Installer messages in Word” and “Windows Installer messages in Access”.
