The reason you are getting the error is probably due to the type of images (???) that you are trying to open. Here’s the error message that came up when I went to that URL. It indicates that you were trying to open a .dll file as an image. DLL’s are not images and cannot be opened by an image viewing program. Try Notepad or Wordpad. Both are part of Windows XP. Right click on the .dll file you want to view and select Open With from the dropdown and select Notepad or Wordpad. The resulting file will be jibberish, I’m sure. It’s code for the computer.

        thanks Doc

the problem is… i can be sitting here staring at my desktop and the error will appear! Mercy! its annoying. sometimes i will go to http://www.rpls.com and it will do it. or any site for that matter. i notice it does it with AIM too. but all the errors have to do with IMAGES[/B]

        BUMMER.

        have a good day

You’re saying that you aren’t or haven’t been trying to open anything and this error appears out of nowhere ??? scratch Are you logged on to any site ??? Does it happen as soon as you get to a web page and it starts to open or while it is opening, or are you trying to open something on a site when it occurs ???

You have to be my eyes on your end and provide a bit more detail about what you are doing or trying to do and taking screenshots or at least writing down all error messages word for word and posting them here. We’re here to help, but you have to help us to help you. smile

i have not been able to find a trend, so i will compile a list of screen shots and get them uploaded…. it seems to happen randomly, it started after i installed win xp media. after a format.

as a matter of fact that is when all my problems started, i.e. the CD ROM lock ups, and the PC lock ups. basically all the problems i have posted about here.

hopefully i can get this recreated sometime today, i don’t know what to do about the lock ups.

once again, I appreciate the help guys

Ty, I’d like to echo Doc’s comments with a little advise and counsel if I may. You’ve made or started a number of threads with what seem like different questions or problems. In some of the threads, a number of Loungers have responded with suggestions for you and you’ve not responded or commented on some of them so folks can see if anything they’ve suggested has been of any help to you. There are a lot of folks (volunteers) here who are willing to assist if they can, but you really need to try to keep “closure” on your threads so we all can see if there’s any relationship between and among the different problems you’re having.

Having said all of that, I have to tell you that I’m very “anti-AIM” and I think it would help if you were to run MSCONFIG or some other program to let us see what programs are running while you have your computer booted. I’m suspicious that there’s something RUNNING on your machine that could be causing far reaching problems and it may be necessary to whittle your operation down to a bare minimum of running applications to see if we can isolate what might be causing your lockups and/or error messages.

      Ty

Do you have .NET Framework installed on your PC? This error message is sometimes caused by not having it installed.

Have a look at mscoree.dll could not be found A starters for 10.

i am going to reinstall .net, i have run msconfig and made sure the only thing i have running at start up is my av, i also frequently delete everything in my %temp% folder. I am sorry for not keeping up with my posts and erratically posting in the different categories.

on a good computer day, i don’t need any advice i will from now on try to close each post, so others in the future may search them and possibly fix there problems.

I haven’t received any of the errors, since my last screen shot. i wish i could re produce the error, but haven’t been able to figure that out yet.

i will try to reinstall .net and go from there.

        thanks again

No need to apologise Ty, it took me sometime to get my head around the workings of the Lounge. I sometimes have about 4 conversttions going on with different Loungers at the sametime so always ensure I get an email notification when someone replies to me plus I have this irritating ability to remember conversations grin
