    Hello loungers
List numbering seems to excite a lot of debate, screams and general hair pulling ..

I am looking for suggestions that enable a corporate setting to preserve a consistent list numbering scheme.

Have any organisations found it easier to ignore the gallery, code all the schemes, styles and associations, run in the code in newly created target templates and ban (educate the staff ) the use of the gallery for docs based on the corp templates.

Is this the holy grail ? fanfare

Am I biting off too much.
Maybe when the search facility is on again.

I don’t think you are biting off too much but lists are problematic if you don’t back them up with macros which can be run to reset the gallery positions or restart/continue the numbering. You do also need to educate the users to avoid the Number Gallery and use the macros which you should provide as buttons on toolbars.

I use several outline numbering schemes in templates for large documents and these are maintained by macros which are run whenever a new list is created in the document. Each numbered outline level needs a style series associated with it such as Headings n, Annex n, Appendix n, List Type1 n, List Type2 n etc

The easiest way to create the macros you need is to use the list gallery to create the lists to your liking and assign styles to each level of the list. Then record a macro of setting one of these list elements.

You might want to customise the macros to add extra features and add a few written macros to restart lists or continue lists. These macros have been posted here in the past but will be tough to find without the search running. If you need these, reply here and I will repost.

        Hello Andrew
        Thanks for the interest.
I would be keen to see the macros and it would give a task to look at over the week end.
If it is a quick & easy job to re-post then yes please, but only if you dont have to spend time ferreting around looking … time is money after all.

The more I understand the less I know. I should have stayed in the 1980s with Appleworks and the IIe.

        Regards
        Geof

Geoff, I can help you out with the Restart List macro. I copied it from another lounger. I have created some extensive Styles in 4 templates and I created a Toolbar for each template that has the buttons for the various Styles. I have attached a template I created just for myself that has several styles in it. I think I will have to attach the Restart List macro separately.
