Connect Freezes Puter (OE6)

Using OE6 on Win 2000 pro I seem to have a conflict with the McAffee….which sometimes resets itself to ‘Block all” which prevents downloading mail. Downloads often fail part way through the list.
When I connect or disconnect, the puter often freezes. When connecting I can save it by keeping the mouse moving and when it freezes, agitate it vigorously. When the disconnect freezes, I have to turn the puter off at the back of the tower and often lose a lot of saved mail, both inward and sent.
