Conditional Formatting Question (2003)

I need to preserve some historical data that has conditional formatting applied to it. Going forward with this spreadsheet, I will be changing the “trigger” for the conditional formatting but I don’t want to lose the formatting of the historical data that had the old trigger. My conditional formatting, if the conditions are met, will turn the cell data either green or red but the cell value that determines this is changing as of next week. How can I keep all the old data intact?

Thanks for pointing me to that Steve. I’ll need to play with it a bit as I got a “type mismatch” upon running it. I may be back here again with further questions!

I’ve just read about a method for doing this that is quite simple and doesn’t involve a macro. I copied my data and pasted it into Word; I then copied the data from Word and put it back into Excel…conditional formatting is now gone and the font colours have remained!

That’s a great solution if you only have cells filled with constants, or simple formulas. If you have more complicated formulas, they will be lost in the transition to Word.
