I wonder how much of that is down to those poor users that clicked on the ‘X’ to get rid of it, but got it force fed anyway.

IMHO the shameful way that MS has acted over Win10 makes the statistics a meaningless joke.

I honestly have no clue how independent sites claim to know who’s using what OS, I can only assume that it’s either through a woefully inadequate sample size or else through them or the sites they monitor using intrusive i.e. malware analytical tools. I certainly don’t consider such survey results to be remotely reliable. Or do we accept telemetry from anyone other than Microsoft?

So far as Microsoft’s own figures are concerned, it wouldn’t surprise me if they count each Windows 10 user twice, once when they sign up to the free offer and then again when it’s implemented by a scheduled installation. What seems a dead cert is that they don’t knock anyone off the tally when they revert to their previous OS!

What’s equally a dead cert is that however many are believed to be using Windows 10 it hasn’t reached anything like the target levels set originally by Microsoft, otherwise they wouldn’t have initiated such an intrusive forced upgrade system in the first place, let alone persisted with it (and seemingly stepped it up a gear) when they were made aware of just how much damage it was doing to their reputation. They must now know at the very highest level just how damaging it has been and for it to be allowed to continue can only be an act of sheer desperation resulting from the scale of their investment in this project.

Sadly, if it eventually turns out that heads roll over this debacle, it will probably be because of missed financial targets rather than the way in which the company’s reputation and standing in the industry were trashed in the attempt to hit those targets.
