Getting message computer can’t come out of hibernation,  status 0XC0000411.

    The message indicates file  \HIBERFIL.SYS.

SFC does not see any problems.  I am not able to find any relevant information on the internet.  All I could find were fixes to try on win 10 or 11,  nothing for win 7.

The easy solution,  of course,  is do not hibernate.  But if there is a solution to the problem I would like to fix it rather than use a workaround.

Thanks for any information that might help.

I would turn hibernation off, make sure hiberfil.sys was removed, reboot and re-enable.

      cheers, Paul

How can I make sure hiberfil.sys was removed?

        • #2633640

Once hibernation is turned off and the computer rebooted, with an older command prompt type: dir \hiberfil.sys /ah

You should not see the name after turning off hibernation, but if it is still there then type:

          del \hiberfil.sys /f /ah

That should get rid of the hibernation state file with no problem.

If you start PowerShell the old style Command Prompt session can be started by typing cmd and pressing enter.

Thank you for explaining,  step by step,  what Paul is telling me.

Am I correct that I should use powercfg to turn hibernate on/off?

        Hi Paul,

I must be missing something here.  I should re-enable hibernation after it is removed.  After it is removed (deleted) it is gone,  isn’t it?  So what does re-enabling it do?

        • #2634167

          In an elevated Command Prompt
powercfg /Hibernate ON  (this should recreate the hiberfile and turn ON hibernation)
powercfg /Hibernate OFF  (this should turn OFF hibernation)

Thanks much PKCano, for this reply and for all the information you supply to less knowledgeable people like me.

Did not work.  I did the following:

        1. dir \hiberfil.sys /ah, and verified hiberfil.sys was there.
        2. powercfg /Hibernate OFF
        3. del \hiberfil.sys /f /ah
        4. dir \hiberfil.sys /ah, and verified hiberfil.sys was gone.
        5. shut down.  (restart doesn’t work either.)
        6. power up computer.
        7. powercfg /Hibernate ON
        8. dir \hiberfil.sys /ah, and verified hiberfil.sys was there.
        9. put system  to sleep.
        10. preesed a key to try to wake-up the system.
        11. got the same response as in the original entry. (status 0XC0000411,  etc.)
