    wtf moment

i bought acronis true image home 2012 pc backup and recovery
from MEI a couple years ago

just opened the sealed case by removing the wrapper
    and tried to use it
    total fail

rejects my VALID serial number the box said to use
rejects the shorter version their web site said to use

tried to send feedback for help
they list dozens of products but NOT the 2012 version
i guess if i wrote a big pos i would not admit it ever got released and try to erase all memory of that program

i really needed to image the pc tonight
wasted hours trying to get their buggy website to accept my VALID program copy and the VALID S/N

ACRONIS IS A TOTAL FAIL FOR ME
is there any reason i shoudl not declare this thing a BIG POS
and be afraid to ever try any other versions of their brown stuff

PLEASE RECOMMEND ANOTHER PROGRAM by somebody else that I CAN TRY THAT WONT ASK FOR 64 CHARACTERS in tiny type be entered before i can use it
    thanks

I use Terabyte’s Image for Windows and always found it reliable https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-windows.htm

I have had to use it for real a few times and it’s worked perfectly for me

        Try Macrium Reflect Free…

        +1

AOMEI Backupper (http://www.backup-utility.com) has been working nicely for me (Win7 SP1 desktop) where Macrium Reflect Free was unreliable.

      OP:
How much did MEI charge for that Acronis True Image 2012? Did you compare prices between Acronis web site and MEI web site?
Reason for asking: I’m wondering if MEI accidentally sold you a busted flush poker hand.

Addendum: modified my English for accuracy 🙂
Too late, jwoods caught me in my errors in his next post 🙂

I’m wondering if some of the unreliability reported by some users of either Macrium and/or Acronis might be attributed to non-vetted and/or incorrectly-anchored external storage media.

        nope

it rejected the magic number in the package

and there is no 2012 version on their website now

Why did you buy such an old version? Current is 2015 and has been vastly improved over 2012. Vastly is an understatement, don’t bother with it! Maybe they will sell you an upgrade at a discount.

      • #1512377

it was current when I bought it !!!!!!!!!!!

just had not gotten around to using it yet

I’ve had every version of Acronis since 2009 installed on multiple computers and even though I have paid current version I got fed up and scrapped it altogether. It used to be good but it has become so bloated and unreliable I’ve found it can’t ever be trusted anymore. As often as not the backup sets or recovery disks fail and cannot be restored, or the automated backups inexplicably stop without warning, and it’s not due to hardware problems. The program itself is buggy. The past year I’ve been using Todo Backup and so far it’s worked without fail. It’s faster too. (I’m using the paid version, but the free version works fine too.)

I’m not pleased with ATI 2016 beta; hence, I rolled back via OS image restore to ATI2015.
Tell me more about Todo Backup & Restore, I would like to explore it.

      RJ,

Here’s a post I wrote in another thread just a few days ago:

Several years ago, after reading glowing reports about Acronis 2009, I tried out AT 2010. As you say, manual image backups work just fine. However, when I tried to do automated differential image backups with automated cleanup of old iterations, I found the program wouldn’t perform. I got into the Support Forum, and was an avid reader for over a year – saw the same problems being reported – over & over again, with the only solution, “wait for the next version.” Next year, rinse & repeat.

I then stumbled on EaseUS ToDo Backup Free (v.4.0.0.2, the last uncrippled free version), which did all that I wanted & more (email notifications, pre- and post-commands) right out of the box, and haven’t looked back since. I’ve recently had the opportunity to try ToDo Free v.8.3, and although it doesn’t have the “more” above, it’s still a reliable automated differential image backup solution.

As I said before, AT seems to work well as you are using it, for unscheduled, manual, complete image backups; I’m too busy (lazy) to remember to do this, so I need an automated solution, preferably one that tells be if the b/u didn’t complete (external HD off-line, etc.). As always, YMMV.

@billrice: Yes, Acronis TI 2015 is the latest and is vastly improved over 2012; BUT (IMHO) 2014 is much better (2015 inexplicably dropped a number of the useful features of 2014). I uninstalled 2015 and reverted to 2014 thus wasting the purchase price of 2015 …

What a minute, did you buy an upgrade product, or, a complete product? Reason for asking: an upgrade requires an existing older already registered version on the hard-drive, a complete product does not.
Ok, it’s 1:25am here, and I just had my early-morning coffee. Are you still having trouble getting a serial number registered? I know the real numbers are real long! I know of no existing short numbers. I’ve been using ATI 2015 since it came out, it installs & asks for its long number.
Incidentally, I purchased a DOS 3.30 from a local computer store some time ago. It turned out to be a manufactured copy by an outsider, not Microsoft. It is remotely possible that you were sold accidentally a busted flush poker hand.

it was sold as new complete product
sealed in a package with a dvd

        it was not an upgrade
