I’ve been relying on matousec.com as my primary source for comparative firewall testing. I just tried to check out the site and get the latest comparative results, but it looks like they didn’t renew their membership with GoDaddy for some reason. So… I’m looking for another site that independently tests a wide range of firewalls and compares the results. Anybody know of any they’d recommend? Thanks.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

They’re OK from here – which is South Wales, UK. It may have been a temporary glitch but I haven’t been there for a month or more and they’re definitely not in my cache and fired up straight away.
In terms of other sites then you could try:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-firewall.htm – but this is subjective and depends on if Ian (aka Gizmo) himself is teh reviewer. If it is Ian then all well and good but I can’t vouch for anyone else.
http://personal-firewall-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ – a more commercial looking site … treat with care in terms of subjectivity.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_firewalls – a good review of what’s what and what does it work with but not a comparative.
In terms of a direct equivalent to Matousec I don’t know of any – but would love to hear if there is.

I’m in the US, and I cannot get anything but a godaddy.com advertisement on either Firefox or IE, even after manually clearing the caches and site preferences. Hope the problem is resolved soon.

Transfering to new servers (2010/08/16 17:50)
Due to a great increase in the traffic to our websites, we have to transfer our projects to a new hosting. During the next few days our websites may be unavailable from time to time. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for understanding and patience.
So that would explain it.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 18, 2010 at 9:18 pm #1239873I use Steve Gibson’s Shields -up http://www.grc.com/ It is a very comprehensive site and runs quite a few tests.
It also has some free downloadable utilities for further testing of your firewall.
