I have used Comodo Firewall since at least 2008 when I (finally) installed WinXP on my old desktop PC. When I bought my new Win7 system, one of the first things I did was install Comodo and turned off the built-in Win7 firewall.

In Fred Langa’s first column on Lizamoon malware, I recall him saying that he was using the Win7 firewall. What are others thoughts about going this same route? Any observed advantages or disadvantages? Better or worse security and monitoring of computer activity?

In my (network) setup I am behind my ISP’s gateway and in some cases a second strong password-protected wireless router.

As long as your ISP’s gateway has a firewall in it, the Windows firewall is probably sufficient. I’m behind a router with a firewall and use the Windows firewall on a Vista PC and Win7 PC and ZA on an old XP PC. Never had a problem with any of them.
