If I choose to display 3 columns (from the Columns button), how can I place the cursor over column 2 or 3; & have it grab? Right now, I have to scroll all the way to the bottom of column 1 to get to column 2; & so on. How can I set this app up to have the columns be independent? Thanks.

Not sure I understand what you want. To view columns side-by-side, use Print Layout view.

Word’s columns are not “independent”: Word will snake text from the first to the second to the third, and you can’t make a new first column without terminating the third (e.g., by filling it up or inserting a column break). Unlike WordPerfect, there is no parallel columns feature in Word. Instead, you generally have to use tables for that.

As Jefferson said, only tables will have independent columns. The closest you can come to a keyboard shortcut to hop to a different column (and only IF the columns are filled) is Ctrl+Arrow Down or Arrow Up. These will take you to the next or previous paragraph, if they exist.

        Guys,

I found out…you can key the columns to work independently by inserting a break > column break. Then you can move into each column by clicking inside the column, or by using the directional arrows on the keyboard.
