    Is it possible to rename the column headings, “A”, “B”, “C”, …….etc.

      The only choice you have is between numbers (1, 2, 3, …, if you use R1C1 reference style) and letters (A, B, C., …, if you use A1 reference style); you set this in the General tab of Tools | Options…

      You can use the first row for meaningful headings, and keep row 1 visible:
      – Select row 2.
      – Select Window | Freeze Panes.
