I would like to be able to color-code ALL my incoming e-mail but when I tried to do that this morning I got the message that I couldn’t do it because I had already “exceeded the maximum number of rules for this folder”. Once before I tried setting up categories which would then be colored but I was totally unable to make it work. Can someone give me a step-by-step which would allow me to have many different colored e-mails (in Entourage, the Mac version of Outlook, you can color as many different ones as you want, AND you can use the color-mixer to have shades of colors. Why is the windows version “hobbled”?)
    TIA

It sounds like you are using the Rules function to colour code your messages. Have you tried using Views – View|Current Views|Define Views? If you drill down far enough further,- through Automatic Formatting|Font|Color, you should find that colour coding can also be set up that way – using the Add option. Unfortunately, the full range colour picker is not available – only the basic 16 “safe” colours. Of these only about half are really available – as a fair few either just don’t stand out – or, like white, can be functionally illegible. HTH

OK — that’s a new way of doing it, but it appears that there is a finite number of View rules that you can set up here in automatic formatting. There are five categories that cannot be deleted (to give you more space) and if I have all the others that I’ve set up (e.g. mail from “xxx”, color=red) I still run into the limit on rules set up here and the “Add” button is greyed out. I’ll think about setting up folder rules and see if that will help me. Thanks for the suggestion which led me to a new part of Outlook!.
