I know you can’t imagine anyone wanting this, but one our users want the Office Assistant, but it appears it wasn’t installed. If you go to help, it’s not an option there. I can’t find it anywhere. Is this a custom setting during install? I didn’t install the program originally. Doesn’t it come as a default with the program?

Go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.

Click on Microsoft Office 97 and click on the Add/Remove Button. A menu should appear. Select ‘Add/Remove Office 97 Features.’ or similiar.

Go through the list and add the Office 97 Assistant.

      Hope that works!

Actually, it probably would, except that the applications were pushed by the network administrator using a snapshot. I have found out since my last post that since she used a snapshot and it was a custom install, the feature isn’t available until she pushes it to us. So, this is unanswerable for my situation. Thanks anyway!!

Clippy and compatriots are found in “Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeActors”; Clippy is “clippit.act”. If the directory doesn’t exist, see if clippit.act exists elsewhere and if so recreate the directory and move it there. (I only know this much because I despise Clippy and rename the folder “Bad_Actors” to get rid of him.)

Ha. If you really hated Clippy, you'd name the folder "Dead Actors". laugh

Well, I take it a step beyond..

Don’t want clippy, don’t like clippy, dont need clippy. I dusted off my ‘Desktop Games’ and shot clippy full of holes. Then I took my ‘Actors’ directory, and deleted it.

Finally, I emptied my recycling bin for good measure.

I did rather like Rocky though, wonder why they pulled him from 0’97?

[/indent] I believe that is the one that triggered a copyright infringement lawsuit.

Rocky is back in Office 2000! And many people will have “saved” the Office 97 Rocky from the wastebin, just like Lassie…
