Clipboard problem

This morning for some reason ctl-c and ctl-v stopped working. I also tried cut / copy and paste from the edit menu and they did not work either. Everything seemed to be working fine yesterday.

I run XP3 with all fixes applied and word 2003 with fixes applied. I am using a Microsoft cordless keyboard and mouse. I have not made any system changes since Microsoft’s last fix update.

Initially I was trying to copy and paste from an email into fire fox’s task bar. After the problem started I experimented with a word document and copy / paste also would not work in Word.

looking at clipboard in help I noticed an error message popping up at the lower right corner of the screen that said “Clipboard – Item not collected” I have experimented with the various options shown in help and nothing has seemed to work.

I feel sure that I have made an inadvertent change which has done something to the clipboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried System Restore back to a time you are certain is prior to the start of the problem ??

Have you tried running sfc /scannow ? You may need the XP installation CD…

Another possibility is to terminate the rdclip process if it is present, by going to Task Manager, then the Processes tab, finding rdclip.exe, highlighting it, then clicking the End Process button. If it’s not present, then this suggestion is worthless!

rdclip was not in the task list, but accessing the task list made me realize that a reboot might solve the problem.

I rebooted and after that the clipboard starting working again.

Now I get an increase in the number of items on the clipboard when I do a CTL-C and CTL-V works again.

The clip board icon now says 6 of 24 items on clipboard. I don’t know where the 24 came from.

Is there a way to clean the clip board without rebooting?

I think the problem is solved.

I tried right clicking on the clip board icon and it gave me an option to clean off the clip board plus a couple of other options that I am not sure about

While we’re on the subject of the clipboard, you might want to consider possibly enhancing your computer experience with a third-party clipboard enhancer. Many of them are free and a Google search on “clipboard enhancer” will show you lots of choices. I’ve been using the not-free ClipMate for many years and I don’t switch since I’m familiar with it.

Interestingly, I mentioned it a few years ago in [post=”606959″]Post 606959[/post] when you first discovered the Windows clipboard software program.
