Set up: Office 97, Win XP SP2, Seamonkey browser, Norton security, ZoneAlarm. I have a problem downloading clipart from http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us%5B/url%5D Microsoft’s Clipart site. What happens is that the download rate slows and then stops completely. I download from various sites, but this is the only problem site. It’s also the only site that uses Javascript to download; Javascript is required. (Mostly I surf with Javascript off, turning it on only when I need it, on a known trusted site.)

A web search offers this: http://msauer.mvps.org/getting_started.htm%5B/url%5D “There appears to be some problems downloading with conjunction with anti-virus applications. Disable “script blocking” in Norton or whatever is similar in other products.”

I’m seeking comments on the overall problem, and specific directions as to where this script option might be located in Norton software. Thank you. ….J. Till

In Norton (Symantec) Anti Virus 2005, the script blocking option can be turned on/off as follows:
      – Activate Norton Anti Virus.
      – Click Options.
      – Click Script Blocking in the System section.
      – Clear the Enable script blocking checl box.

Thanks for your reply, Hans. My Norton AntiVirus looks different. I have the OEM (came with the computer) version 11.5.73, dated 2005. The free period just expired and I have not decided whether to update with Norton or go with a competing product. Perhaps my version of Norton AntiVirus does not even offer the script protection that I’m worried about. I have clicked around in this Norton, but cannot find any script reference.

Yes, it seems that script blocking is not configurable in your version.

Have you tried using Internet Explorer to download clipart?

Update….. I removed the OEM Norton Anti-Virus package. I replaced it with AVG (free for personal use) Anti-Virus. The problem went away.
